This Creamy Garlic Chicken recipe features tender, pan-seared chicken breasts cooked in a rich and flavorful garlic cream sauce. Perfect for a comforting dinner, it's easy to prepare and yields a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.3 lbs. total)
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp butter, divided
  • 1 whole garlic bulb (about 8-9 garlic cloves)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken: Using a sharp knife, fillet each chicken breast into two thinner cutlets or use thin-cut chicken breasts for even cooking. Season both sides with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Then sprinkle flour over both sides and rub it in evenly to coat.
  2. Cook Chicken: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. Once hot, add the chicken cutlets and cook for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken to a clean plate and cover to keep warm.
  3. Prepare Garlic: While chicken cooks, peel the garlic cloves and smash them gently using the side of a large chef's knife by pressing down with the heel of your hand.
  4. Sauté Garlic: To the same skillet, add remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and the smashed garlic cloves. Reduce heat to medium-low and sauté the garlic for 3 minutes until lightly browned and fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  5. Make Sauce: Pour chicken broth and heavy cream into the skillet with garlic. Add garlic powder and stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the pan bottom. Simmer the sauce for 8 to 10 minutes until it thickens by about half. Taste and adjust seasoning with approximately 1/8 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper if needed.
  6. Finish Dish: Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet, spoon the creamy garlic sauce over them, and heat through for a few minutes. Optionally garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving. Enjoy your creamy garlic chicken!

Notes

  • For a different protein option, boneless, skinless chicken thighs can be used instead of breasts.
  • If short on time or garlic preparation is a concern, substitute 2.5 tablespoons of pre-minced garlic for the fresh garlic cloves.
  • Make sure to stir garlic frequently while sautéing to prevent burning and bitterness.
  • Letting the sauce reduce properly is key for a thick and flavorful finish.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or over pasta or rice for a complete meal.
